DeMiero Jazz Fest 2023 – Kim Nazarian – BREATH, Part 2

Part 2 of Kim Nazarian’s masterclass on breath.

Here are some supplemental materials from Part 2:

Articulator Breathing Exercise reference sheet

Title page from Freeing the Natural Voice by Kristin Linklater

“I Am Breathing”

From the composer/musician: EMMA TYME

“The initial muse was someone’s definition of ‘trauma’: too much, too fast, too soon.
And Kim’s philosophy and practice of breathwork has informed my healing journey and given shape to this song.  And my mindfulness practice… one in the same…
The Jewish belief that God is in relationships, in connections, in laws of ecology, is reflected by “Love lives in the in-between, alive and well, and deeply breathing…” I still remember the space between a cedar tree and maple in Tacoma that whispered that line to my heart.
and the line, “I’m not alone when I’m alone and I am yearning…” I imagine everyone yearns for something at some point.
And the bridge, I wrote while broken down north of Sacramento.
Thanks for listening.  I hope the song nourishes your soul.”

DeMiero Jazz Fest 2023 – Lori Lynn Meader – Nia

Part 1 of our series on Body, Breath, and Sound. Join Lori Lynn Meader as she guides us through the Body element of performing.

Combining dance, martial arts and mindfulness, Nia invites your body, mind and soul to come out and play. Discover, explore, unleash, and enhance your potential to live a healthy and meaningful life by engaging your senses and listening to your body. Each workout leaves you feeling physically energized, mentally clear, and emotionally balanced.

Nia cardio-workouts combine simple moves to get you feeling great – body, mind, emotions, and spirit. Nia is non-impact, intended to be practiced barefoot, and adaptable to individual needs and abilities. Classic Nia is considered “the form” of Nia.

Where there is form, there is freedom. Nia FreeDance is just that, “the freedom” of Nia. Let go, move and see what happens! Both form and freedom are necessary to the creative and transformational process. Together, they balance the flow of energy and provide the opportunity to discover the sacred fullness of your entire being.

FreeDance asks you to listen to your body and soul and move from a place that will surprise you each and every time. There is no right or wrong here. Be spontaneous, creative, radical and adventurous. Expand beyond your comfort zone. Without following the teacher, you are invited into your own experience. Just you, the music and your movement, create magic you never imagined possible.

About Lori Lynn Meader:
Lori Lynn Meader is a psychotherapist in private practice in NYC (currently on Zoom as well) working with individuals, couples and groups. Specializations include (but are not limited to) anxiety, depression, grief, loss, trauma, and eating disorders. Other areas of focus: career transitions, questions of gender/sexuality, the life of an artist, relationship issues. I began this journey as a psychotherapist over 25 years ago. At that same time, I found and fell in love with Nia. Being a therapist and a Nia teacher, I offer the space for you to learn more about yourself and what might be in the way of you living your best life. Meeting you where you are, honoring your individual path and supporting you in finding more of your authentic YOU-ness is a unique privilege. With a background in voice, dance and theatre, I enjoyed a professional performing career in the U.S. and abroad, spanning more than two decades. Combining my passions, I am able to offer an integrated approach to healing.

As a Nia Black Belt Instructor, I offer weekly (Zoom) Nia classes and monthly FreeDance Experiences. With a deep desire for community, I have cultivated a thriving online community that crosses state lines and oceans. Moving The Body’s Way…Your Body’s Way, offers a natural way to stay fit, and it is what keeps us coming back for more…because it’s FUN!  Nia is designed to help you approach everything in life with purpose, self-confidence, vitality and joy.  The aim is to make movement more conscious, to release blocked energy, and to help you feel more at home in your body. You are guided by the pleasure principle, “if it feels good, do it.”

I have presented numerous workshops/playshops and have written articles for professional and consumer publications. Co-founder and co-creator of Dwell In Possibilities Retreats for Women, this year we celebrate 10 years of Retreats. In October of 2022, we bring our week-long Retreat to Tuscany. Please contact me if you would like information on this life-changing experience.
